Updated July 18 2024
Time of Origins RP is age restricted to players above 18 years of age.
Disclaimer:
All rules are subject to change at any time.
Management will always have the final say in any situation.
Common Terminology:
– Out of Character (OOC) – Things unrelated to the roleplay. Reference to real life.
– In Character (IC) – Related to the roleplay. Reference to character life.
– Random Death Match (RDM) – Killing another player without proper roleplay prior
– Kill on Sight (KOS) – Killing another player on sight without proper roleplay prior
– Radical RP (RRP) – Child rp, ultra violent, rape, racism, or any roleplay that violates other rules
– Erotic RP (ERP) – Sexual roleplay (not allowed)
– Metagaming – Using forms of communication out of character, in character
– Combat Logging – Logging out of game in the middle of an active scene to avoid rp
– Not valuing Life (NVL) – Not fearing consequences to actions IC
– Fail RP (FRP) – Not roleplaying properly (breaking character, no NVL)
If you are unclear or need clarification on the rules, submit the proper ticket and ask before taking an action.
1. Professionalism.
– Don’t be a jerk. We all want a fun place to roleplay and have nice experiences. Following this rule helps us have a fun environment.
2. High Quality Roleplay.
– We expect you to give your best effort at high quality roleplay.
– If you are an experienced roleplayer and you notice a lesser experienced player, teach instead of criticize, please.
3. Working Microphone.
– You must have a decent working microphone to play on Time of Origins RP.
– Players should be able to understand you and *not* hear what’s going on in your background.
– We are a voice RP server. You must use voice in game at all times, unless you have been given special Permission to do text RP only.
– *Text RP only* permission is only granted to those that medically cannot speak. Open the appropriate ticket for approval, and/or make a note in your application and management will reach out.
4. Discord.
– Discord is used as the primary tool to handle in-game tickets, community functions, and staff interactions with players. You must remain in the discord to be whitelisted and must answer staff tags and inquiries in a reasonable amount of time or risk getting your whitelist suspended until you do.
– Your discord name must include & reflect your in game character name.
– Example: Fairy Godmother (Ms. Lavender)
– You will be reminded by an admin to change your name to this format if you have not already. Failure to comply may result in the removal of your whitelisting and it makes the admins job difficult in finding you to help or speak with you.
– Anyone using a voice channel on discord, and has a character in game, is expected to be muted and talking in game. There may be others around that you are unaware of and only speaking in discord denies them the RP experience. We ask that you be respectful of that.
– Do not DM or Tag admins or mods asking about the status of your application–or other questions. There are help channels, welcome channels, and tickets for that.
– If you wish to speak with an admin or mod, either open a ticket or ask in a welcome or help channel, if you can speak with us.
5. Meta.
– Please don’t do it! You will die a horrible death and have your ears torn off by Pixies.
– Metagaming – Taking actions, or sharing information, based on what you learned Out of Character/In Real Life. Things your character wouldn’t know in game.
– Ex: Your character knows where a player is in game through OOC means and you show up there without ever being told anything IN GAME.
– Do NOT DM people asking if you can “Come over” or if they have X thing you want crafted. These are all communications that should be handled in game.
– Meta-logging – No logging into the server because you saw something happening in a stream or heard it through private Dm (Discord Rp’g), or chat.
– If your character was not supposed to wake up, then they should not.
– Discord Rp’g – Sharing, or asking, information in discord dm’s, general chats, that your character could, and should, be learning in game.
– Ex:
– Dm’g someone to ask if you can “come over”.
– Dm’g someone to ask where they are so you can meet them.
– Asking anywhere in discord “where can I find x recipe”, “How do I craft X item?”, “Where is X location?”, “What does X item do?”
– This also extends to Stream chats.
– Stream Sniping – Using information from a stream.
– Don’t force RP on someone, especially streamers. They are trying to tell stories and entertain people.
– Stream sniping causes our favorite streamers to stop playing the game. Please don’t do it.
– We are also in contact with our streamers and have asked them to inform us of server related sniping, toxicity, and fire starting on their streams. Please respect their platforms.
– Knowledge transfer/Grandfathering.
– You can not transfer information, items, animals, housing, etc between characters.
– You should have no memory/recollection that your other characters exist, don’t mention that, at all
6. Forced Roleplay.
– Forcing roleplay in a direction by another player unnaturally or inorganically.
-Players must always be given an option, an “out”.
– Example Non-forced RP: “Get off my land or I’ll come and blow up your house. I am the lord of these lands. Leave or fight.”
– Example Forced RP: “I am a vampire. I bit you, so now you are a vampire.”
7. Powergaming.
– The use of in game mechanics to gain an advantage to “win” an RP engagement, PVP situation, or forcing RP in a direction that forces a character to have only one choice.
– Players may not create characters, or RP situations, that result in the character being immune to things that other characters are not immune to.
– Ex: “I can not be hurt by steel blades, only blades made from silver”
– Ex: “Fire does not hurt me!”
– Basically, no superpowers.
– Forcefully dismembering, mutilating, or maiming another player without proper OOC consent.
– Passing items in an unrealistic manner.
– You can’t pass a horse through a window.
– You can’t climb onto roofs to “hear” a conversation through the roof.
– Use common sense.
8. Fail RP.
– Roleplay that breaks immersion, ruins story, and interaction ability or is driven by out of character elements, instead of roleplay elements.
Characters, or RP, that has little to no weaknesses or lack of knowledge.
– Consideration in RP.
– PvP: Understanding that if you/your group consistently build character/s so that never take a loss, that you are limiting yourself for depth in RP, as well as, never giving fellow players the fun of having the occasional win.
– Bearing in mind that diversity in builds not only provides depth and realism to your character but also to the world around you and that it’s not always necessary to have the winning build.
Examples:
– Characters that “know everything about everything” usually wind up being avoided and their RP does suffer from it.
– If you find yourself in a room with 5 people, and there are 5 situations that require different skills, class, or tasks and you find yourself saying: I can do that, to each of the 5 things, you are Fail RP’ng.
– A large group goes out to battle the ancient dragon. One of the players decides he is going to be the main tank but they have been RPng as a 90 year old mage, then make the argument that they are a battle mage and can wield that 90lb battle hammer.
It takes an hour or so to go through the dragon and people begin to do their wounded RP. This same wizard that was tanking now interjects that they have had extensive medical training with the ancient druids and begin to take over the medical RP pushing the healers that had just healed the battle for the past hour in the background and overriding their medical RP.
– Characters from other seasons cannot “know” things or people from previous seasons unless having express permission from that other person and agreement. Ie: No heirlooming knowledge between characters.
– If you decide you wish to play a character from a previous season, you may run into another person that is also playing a character from previous seasons that your character had interacted with. Do not assume that this character will automatically know yours and have knowledge of these things. Interacting with them under this assumption may very well ruin their RP experience.
– Using weapons or abilities outside of your RP class and RP’d expertise, this is considered Fail RP.
– Shutting down the roleplay of others.
– Ignoring events, situations, or people around you resulting in no interaction or reaction to these things is fail RP. You may not want to interact with that person or event, and that is understandable, but bow out from the situation in RP and acknowledge the interaction.
9. Character Names.
– Character names or archetype or name references to memes or non-thematic elements.
– Nothing breaks immersion faster than being on your way to the Ancient Greek themed market to RP buying seeds for your garden and running into Chuck Norrisini.
– Claiming to be famous characters or well known characters from gaming, movies, etc…
10. Avoiding or Ignoring RP consequences.
– It’s unfair to fellow storytellers to create a situation/conflict and then reroll to avoid consequences of the situation.
– There will be moments where a character may stand up and be counted, or take action, etc there are times or situations where this might have negative RP consequences for these actions and need to be RPd out correctly.
– Ex:
– Standing in the King’s Court, surrounded by kings guards & arguing with the king over something, or making demands, etc.
– If the person is in a position of power over your character, we should allow for it to drive the RP–if that is the situation.
– Handling the situation as a Character: Backroom whispers, starting a revolution, working to dethrone the king, etc–good examples of how to empower your character other than trying to measure a farmer vs a king.
11. Value Your Life.
– You *MUST* fear for your life and the lives of other storytellers (so long as it doesn’t put your own life in danger).
– Characters are no different than any others in the world and are subject to the same fates, illnesses, longevity, and mortality as anyone else and expect certain situations
– You can not claim to be immune to fear.
– You need to comply with demands if your life is in danger or under threat
– Ex:
– You’re outnumbered/someone has a weapon aimed at you
– Unrealistic jumps, diving into mobs, monsters, etc
12. No KOS/RDM
– There must be proper verbal RP engagement before any sort of combat can occur! RP, RP, RP! Engage yourself in the situation!
– Kill on Sight (KoS)
– Ex: This is our hunting area, leave now or deal with the consequences… or you killed my brother Jonah.. do you deny this?
– Random Death Match (RDM)
– Is an effort to get around the KOS rule but creating a situation that forces another storyteller into a combat/death situation without significant role play and making it appear random but having only a result desired by the instigator.
When engaging in a threat to other players by overwhelming force (a larger number rolls up on a much smaller number) you must offer a threat and consequence. You must also offer this player a reasonable “out” or alternative to death or harm that fall within the rules and guidelines.
13. Starter City / Neutral Area.
– Starter City/ Welcome City is Admin zoned and designed primarily to orient new players to the world.
– Forms of banditry or piracy are not allowed here.
– However, it is still a role play location and may be freely used for role play at any time.
– Raiding the neutral area.
– There may be player owned shops and homes in the neutral town(s). They fall under the same raiding and conflict rules as any other storyteller.
– The only exception is that we ask you keep damage to a minimum.
– Buildings containing only NPCs and NPC shops are off limit to raiding, intentional destruction, or theft RP.
– The neutral Area may not be claimed by any faction or clan.
– Gear, currency, resources and other items left in public crafting stations are fair game and not considered theft RP if there is no one else in the crafting area. You may want to ask or look around, but if you see or hear no one, assume it is yours for the taking.
Do not SHOOT, BOMB, CAST ON, AOE, or DAMAGE BUILDINGS in TOWN. Failure to comply will result in a visit.
14. Taking Captives.
– You are only allowed to take players captive in role play.
– They can only be held captive for up to 30 minutes from time of capture.
– There must be a prior agreement out of character agreeing to being captured longer.
15. Nameplating.
– It’s a game mechanic that we don’t turn off.
– However, you must RP around it.
– If someone is covering their face and you don’t recognize their voice, you have to RP it as such.
– Do not RP as if you can see through their helmet.
– If they tag themselves as disguised you should respect their RP and act as if they are truly disguised.
– You should not know who a character is until you have been introduced to them or have them pointed out to you.
– Nameplating is very much meta gaming.
16. Theft.
– Theft: taking items from a single container without consent that does not belong to you or your clan.
– Raiding: taking items from multiple containers without consent that does not belong to you or your clan. Raiding would also involve but not be limited to breaking and entering or an attack on the base itself or its inhabitants. It is also defined as
The allowance for theft on the server is to further RP, not enrich or ease players grind.
– We want people to be able to play a thief if they wish, but playing a thief should come with inherent dangers of being caught and the resulting RP consequence of such a situation.
– Risk of being caught should escalate over time.
Theft RP:
– Players need to leave notes or clues that any reasonable person would be able to piece together and eventually find the thief.
– Notes or clues need to be specific and non-vague as to lead to your character.
– They do not need to have your characters name or base coordinates, but should contain valuable clues.
Example of a bad note:
You find a wisp of blond hair and bloody footprints heading out the door….
Example of a good note:
You find a wisp of blond hair and large footprints heading <direction of your base> and the scent of jasmine in the air.. The letter is signed: Thanks for the diamonds, I’ll drink a toast in your honor at the <local rp tavern> -The Jackal
– The thief should be using that nickname or codename consistently enough to get caught if overheard and RP that they wear jasmine perfume, frequent the tavern they mentioned, etc.
Clues: Leaving a clue as to who you are should have each of the following: Hair color, eye color, height (short, tall, average), distinguishing feature (Scar, fairy dust, brimstone, etc), any flavor details you would like to add.
– Theft from sleeping bodies is not allowed without explicit ooc permission.
– Remember, the primary point is RP and there is no chance to wake up due to a pickpocket.
Theft Rp requires that there actually be RP behind what you are doing and not just enrichment of your character or group. Be that trying to fence stolen goods, etc. Again, the point is RP.
– You may not steal through windows or poorly placed benches through walls.
– You may not make multiple trips to the point of theft.
– Thrall Theft: You may not steal thralls from other players. This includes thralls being trained in wheels or on benches.
– Transmog Theft: You may not steal transmogs from other players. These are permission based admin spawned in items that change the appearance of the storyteller to appear as an npc or in-game asset like a wolf, bear, horns, wings, etc.
– Fishtrap Theft: Fish traps and Crab Traps are player owned items. You may not steal from them without roleplaying as a thief and leaving the correct clues and hints as to who you are.
17. Sleeping Bodies.
– If enabled, sleeping bodies are not to be touched without prior consent under any circumstance.
– You may not tamper with sleeping bodies in any way without express documented consent to your touching the character. Undressing or removing items from a sleeping body to make them “nude” or to disarm them will result in punitive action.
Remember, the primary point is RP and there is no chance to wake up due to your actions.
18. Raiding.
– There should be significant RP before a violent raid happens. Significant RP is defined as threat and consequence being given or a previous chain of events and RP leading up to the raid.
– Raiding through theft would also require a significant amount of clues to the find the thief.
What is not considered significant RP: You insulted me! Prepare for war!
Remember, we are telling a story. You insulted me, I kill you… well, it’s just not a very interesting story, now is it?
– Before a raid can begin, there must be a clear win condition and loss condition understood between both parties.
Raids are required to have 2 steps:
- Step 1. Significant RP including a challenge and consequence: Storytellers must have the ability to choose to go to war or given the opportunity to avoid it. This is done through the story.
- Step 2. Notify Admins of raid: This protects the raider as much as the person being raided. Notify admins before signaling your intent to raid so they can ensure that the person being raided isn’t stashing away the “good stuff” prior to a raid and that there is ample time for them to come online. You should wait until you get a response from the admins before proceeding with a raid.
Note: Storytellers that are about to be raided are not allowed to move items into hidden rooms or off to a stash somewhere. Typically if you had it there before, it’s not going to leave there once you know a fight is coming.
During the raid:
What you cannot do:
- No taking thralls or intentionally killing workstation thralls.
- No intentionally blowing up boxes and leaving the contents on the ground.
- No Stone Aging. Leave the storyteller with the ability to recover from the raid and their chance for redemption.
- No loading up horses, mounts, or thralls with loot.
- No looting of transmogs or admin spawned items. You must either leave these on a body or allow them to despawn on the ground.
What you can do:
- You can loot workstations for any type of item. (Exception is thrall wheels, you may not loot them)
- You can kill defense/combat thralls and pets if they attack you.
- You may take loot as long as it is what you can carry without a backpack.
Note: You may not load your body with valuable items and log out. This will result in loss of those items if found to be intentional.
19. Combat Rules.
Healing: You may use bandages and potions. If you are found to use animation canceling to get around the wrap or drinking animations, there will be administrative action taken.
-Any animation canceling in pvp will result in disciplinary actions and/or bans.
– You may not heal during combat with stews, food, or other healing methods that have no animation. There must be animations for any healing being done.
– Transmogs: PVP while in a full body transmog is prohibited unless given express permission by staff. If engaged in PVP you must exit your transmog prior to fighting. This includes any form of ranged combat or healing.
– Thralls. Thralls are not to be used in pvp under any circumstances. This means no pvp while a thrall is trailing you and set on anything other than passive. Bases may not have more than 2 thralls for defense. If you own more, they must be on passive.
– Buffs. If using AOC, Orb buffs in pvp are not allowed in any situation. If you find yourself in a pvp situation and you have orb buff effects, extract yourself from the pvp until the buffs wear off. If you are buffed by orbs and decide to reciprocate in pvp you will be responsible for the outcome. Contact an admin if you are unable to extract yourself.
Potion/Elixir buffs are allowed in all situations.
– Avoiding Combat: You may run, dodge, climb, scream, beg, plead etc to avoid combat. What you may not do is use portals, jumps, warps, maps, or dungeon entrances. You also may not use game mechanics like staying in water to avoid combat. (Crossing a river: Yes, Wading in the ocean out of arrow range: No.)
You may not combat log at any time. If you have an emergency, contact the antagonist or victim and an admin and let them know the situation. You must then return to the situation once you return online.
– PVP Combat: Don’t cheat others out of their victory. If you feel as though you are going to lose and cannot escape, just yield and RP it out. Who knows what will happen or events may transpire.
Do not abuse game mechanics such as animation cancelling to avoid status like knockdowns or staggers or to cancel swings and strikes that missed.
If you kill another player in combat, you may loot their body. Remember, there must be significant RP behind pvp and not looting that shiny sword. Other story tellers should not be treated as loot piñatas and you may only take 1 or 2 items from their person, unless otherwise agreed upon with that person to advance RP.
– No Zerging: You may not zerg other storytellers in combat or raids. A zerg is defined as: a slang term for a group of gamers who depend on overwhelming numbers to achieve victory, rather than relying on technique, strategy, or skill.
This rule may not be used to “ruleplay” and power game others. The rule exists in spirit to protect against bullying and griefing. You may not use this rule to piss off half the server with your character and then hide behind the rules. Do that and you do not fall under the protection of this rule.
When engaging in a threat to other players by overwhelming force (a larger number rolls up on a much smaller number) you must offer a threat and consequence. You must also offer this player a reasonable “out” or alternative to death or harm that falls within the rules and guidelines.
– Weapon Swapping in Battle:
– There will be NO weapon swapping to a cleansing weapon to remove debuffs from your character during fights. Do not swap weapons simply because you know this is a counter to the weapon another is using. This is an RP server and as such, it’s RP first.
– The use of Set antidotes to remove poison will be prohibited as it does not have an animation in order to be used.
– The use of any potions for healing as long as it has a drinking animation is OK to use.
Remember: RP First and foremost.
Conflict Time Limit: Engaging other players in a war or long term conflict will require having a back and forth. One side claiming a war or conflict with the other side constantly on defense is not a long term war. In an effort to create a distinction between griefing and conflict, you may not continue to attack or intimidate others at their primary home more than 3 times in a 10 day period unless that party has been openly aggressive to you within that time frame. Their aggression will reset the clock and allow for an organic and mutual back and forth. Going to the home or base of a party every day to threaten them or seek conflict will be considered griefing after the third visit if the party is not willing to reciprocate in the conflict.
Aggression is defined as: Any actions, words, or deeds that are hostile in nature. These include, but are not limited to: threats, boasts, aggressive gestures, attacks, insults, slurs, etc. If you are surrounded by a group with hostile intent, your choices are to fight, be submissive, or run away. Standing your ground and talking tough will be considered as aggression and will give that group the green light to continue the conflict.
20. New Life Rule.
– If you are cut down in PVP combat 3 consecutive times, you are to RP injury and may not return to that RP scene if you leave, if you choose to stay, you must RP injured and cannot fight.
– You, and only you, may decide to perma your character at any time or as you see fit.
You may not talk smack while downed or break character at any time.
You may not demand others perma their character or attempt to create conditions where they have no choice but to perma. Situations like these will be retcon and violators will face administrative actions.
21. Building Rules.
– Building rules for seasons that do not require joining pre-set/story clans.
**Before you build anything you MUST make a clan, even if you are the only person in it. **
Thralls:
DO NOT EDIT THRALLS THROUGH ANY MEANS: Editing a thrall means changing it’s appearance, adding accessories, changing colors, hair, etc.
– What you can do: add armor, weapons.
– Please do not place edited armor on thralls. Doing this causes the server to lag and perform extremely poorly.
- Clans are limited to 10 members
- – No second houses, sister clans, or overseers. Each is to be separate and distinct with their own independent leaders and objectives.
Clans:
We know people like to build. We like to build. We want to encourage people to build cool and interesting things..
That said, Server resources are not infinite and we need to be thoughtful in how we build things.
– Please keep your build to a main workshop and home.
– Buildings must be within visual range of the workshop or main building to be considered part of the guild area.
– Building in other areas require admin approval and must have RP reasons behind them.
In an effort to reduce server stress we have placed limit on building pieces and placeable items.
Please note that any season guidelines supersede rules here.
- Building pieces – 500 per person up to 5000 max total per clan.
- Placeables – 250 per person up to a max of 1500 per clan.
- Storage Containers – 10 per clan with an increase of 2 per person in a clan for a maximum of 30 storage containers for a full clan. (A storage container is anything that holds an inventory, book shelves, flower pots, etc) (Excludes workstations, fashion stands, planters, and mailboxes/birdcages.)
- Bird Cages & Mailboxes – Please use a reasonable amount and consider the amount of listings people will have to go through to mail things.
- Planters – You may have up to 10 planters per clan.
- Workstations – We ask that you use a reasonable amount. Multiples of some is ok, having multiples of everything may get you a visit.
- Fashion stands/Mannequins – 2 per person in a clan. (You cannot give your count to other players)
- Religious Alter per clan – 1 per clan
- Thrall Wheel – 2 per clan.
- Taming Pen – 2 Per clan.
- Stables – 1 Per clan.
- Resource Mines – 2 per clan (any combo)
- Fish Traps – 4 per clan
- Mounts – 1 per person
- Pets – 2 combat thralls (Npc, pet, or guard) per person (Includes bound pets for classes)
Avoid foundation spam.
– This is defined as stacking 3 or more foundations on top of each other to create walls and high stacked building bases. Admins may contact you and ask you to reduce the amount so you should try and avoid it.
Stacking Pieces .
– Please refrain from stacking multiple pieces in the same spot to get that “really cool look” or get the triangle peg to fit in the square hole. Sometimes closing off builds is a challenge but the lag this causes is simply not worth it. Consider a new approach to how you are building.
Square box building.
– We realize that building isn’t everyone’s strong suit but we would like to see some effort to make the environment look like it’s lived in and not strictly utilitarian. If you feel you cannot build well or do not like to build, ask around. There are quite a few folks willing to help.
Glass.
– Please use this sparingly. No more than 5% of your base build count. (100 pieces of glass at max build)
Thrall Wheels/Wheel of Pain:
– You may only place thrall wheels in the vicinity of your base. Under no circumstances are you allowed to place thrall wheels near spawns or wayshrines. If found, they will be deleted without warning along with any thralls that may be in them.
22. Building Restrictions.
Do Not Build in:
– Dungeons
– Unnamed City
– Within render distance of portals
– Tunnel Entrances or entrances to POIs
Note: Do not block NPC spawns, rare resources, or major pathways. Doing so may result in disciplinary action and removal of the offending build without warning.
Undermeshing or building in inaccessible areas is strictly forbidden and will result in immediate destruction of the offending structures and admin punitive actions.
23. Banned Items.
There are a number of items that either break the server or are not allowed to be crafted.
– Thrall Vanity Table
– Book of Skellos
– Skellos Vendor or Shop.
– Transitory Stones. – You may not build and place the portal systems provided by the sorcery update.
– Ban list will be updated each season.
The banned items list will be updated periodically throughout each season. If an item is crafted that is on the ban list, it will disappear once moved into your inventory or shared.
24. Inactivity.
– Inactive is defined as having less than 1 hour of playtime in the 14 day period. Logging in to “save your build and reset the clock” is not appreciated and unfair to others and may be subject to inactivity rules.
- Storyteller characters that are inactive for 14 days or more are subject to being deleted from the server for server health.
- Storyteller builds that have not had active players in 14 days will be subject to removal.
- Storytellers may post in the vacation channel if they expect to be offline for an extended period.
- Storytellers may open a ticket to inform staff why they will be offline for longer.
Head Admin/Management reserves the right to determine if builds will stay longer than the allotted time.
25. Alternate Accounts.
– If you are accepted to have a dual account, you must list your main account and only have your main account in the discord. You may only have one alternate account if accepted.
26. Alternate Characters.
– Alternate characters are not allowed without admin approval.
– You may not create an alternate character via the ToT system, and swap between multiple “skins”.
When you do this, all your stats, armors, abilities, stay the same and is not an accurate depiction of a separate character.
27. Community Events.
– If you decide to run your own server event we want it to be the best it can be!
– If needed please put in a admin request in (admin-help) asking for help or assistance with these events.
28. Admin Events/Dungeons.
– Admin run events or created dungeons are created with groups in mind and this is communicated with the storyteller base.
– Unless specified by staff prior, there is to be no use of explosives, trebuchets, or anything that will damage structures.
If you decide to run a dungeon solo, you may not use thralls or pets in lieu of other players.
If you are unable to run the dungeon solo, make a request in a general ticket.
We have admins and content creators that will run it with you.
29. Radical RP/Erotic RP.
This type of roleplay is not allowed on Time of Origins RP.
– Radical Roleplay: This is defined as but not limited to: pregnancy, child roleplay, rape, ultraviolent, and racist roleplay or any role play that violates other rules including Twitch and/or other streaming service TOS.
– Erotic Role play (ERP): The use of erotic/sexual devices or actions in game. Not allowed in game, voice, chat, or discord. This not only includes voice and chat, but also game play, and mechanics.
– If you need a clarification on what constitutes erotic role play, please open a ticket via discord and management will expand on the rule.
Many of our storytellers are professional streamers and their livelihoods are at stake if they encounter situations that violate Twitch, Kick, Youtube, Tik Tok, or any other streaming services Terms of Use.
30. Respect.
– Abusive actions towards any of our storytellers may result in a ban.
– Ex:
– Stalking
– Emotional Bleed (Taking emotions & events from in character to out of character)
– Fire Starting (Starting and/or blowing up disagreements into public)
– Unwelcome Discord Direct Messaging(DM) or Mentions (@) see also Discord RP
– Harassment
– Verbal Abuse
– Base Camping
– Griefing
– Stone aging (Destroying everything a player owns so they have to start over)
Toxicity:
– Abusive actions or vitriolic language towards any staff or other members will result in disciplinary action. Just keep it impersonal and you will be fine.
What you can do: Be critical, open tickets and discuss things you do not like, complain to staff, debate rules and decisions in tickets, we welcome these things in a respectful manner and respond well to it.
What you cannot do: Firestart in general chat, try to incite a crowd to push your ideas or try to force staff into a direction you want, have personal toxic posts about staff members, anywhere. This is unacceptable and will result in a possible permanent ban from the community.
- Outside of any direct server issue, staff will not involve themselves in your personal life, we expect the same and simply because we manage a server does not mean that anyone is entitled to involve themselves in ours.
- General toxicity in any form will no longer be tolerated. Staff reserves the right to determine what defines toxic behavior. This includes in chats, private discords, and stream chats. We expect you to not personalize things and the mental health of our staff is more important than ones entitlement to be toxic and/or vitriolic. It’s really not that hard to be nice or respectful.
31. Discrimination.
– Misogyny & Misandry.
– Misogyny: is hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women.
– Misandry: is the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against men.
– Neither will be tolerated, nor do they have a place in our community.
– Staff reserves the right to determine what falls under any of the above definitions and has the final say on what does/not qualify.
– Sexual Discrimination.
We here at Time of Origins RP do not discriminate against anyone on any basis. Your sexual orientation, gender, gender preference, et al will not be a cause for discrimination.
That said, the act of simply being uncomfortable with the speech of others is not deemed to be discrimination.
How we define discrimination.
– The act must show unjust or prejudicial treatment against a category of people based on the grounds of ethnicity, age, sex, disability, or sexual preferences.
If you feel discriminated against or feel you are in a situation where you are not comfortable:
– Document and record, if possible, the situation as it occurs.
– Document the number of times it has occurred and the individuals/group of individuals involved.
– Remove yourself from the situation.
– If the individuals will not allow you to leave the situation, contact staff immediately.
– Report the incident to staff.
– Sexaul Assault.
– Sexual Assault roleplay will not be tolerated.
– Making unfounded claims of sexual assault will not be tolerated.
These are both real crimes and may actually be subject to real legal recourse.
We take sexual assault seriously and as such, require that we do our due diligence to investigate each claim.
We will not allow our storytellers to be victimized, in either direction.
Making claims without reporting to staff may be subject to discipline. We do not want situations where staff is blindsided by allegations that were alleged but never reported.
Important: You are not your character.
– There will be healthy roleplay reasons to have discrimination against your character or characters race, class, etc.
– Ex: Please do not report discrimination against “elves or dwarves” or your chosen character.
– These rules apply to real life, you as an individual, and/or the discord and roleplay community.
– We want to protect our players and work hard to balance that with those individuals that want to use these rules to control RP and the free speech others enjoy.
Note: Even if you feel you do not have enough evidence to prove a claim, staff needs to be notified in order to watch the situation and individuals involved.
It is our policy to not name victims, perpetrators, allegations, or investigations. This is for several reasons and to ensure that allegations do not equate to guilt or that individuals are not ostracized by the community for simply being accused or accusing others.
– Staff is open to any disagreements with their judgements and appeals can be made. We value what people have to say, but bear in mind that not everyone’s the same and staff understands that not every outcome will be ideal to every person.
– If you feel we are wrong, we do want to know.
Do:
– Contact staff via ticket or contact management directly and let us know.
– Present facts and impact examples.
– Try to avoid personal opinions.
– Present reasoned and articulated arguments.
– Not be upset if you are unable to change the initial judgment.
Do not:
– Try to bully staff into your way of thinking
– Rabble rouse, or communicate, with the intention of inflaming the emotions of a crowd of people.
– Attempt to manipulate staff to punish or impune people you simply do not like.
– Demand staff notify you or anyone else the results of an investigation or allegations that you are not directly involved in.
Staff puts a lot of thought and effort into working to determine these things. Much more than they should be made to.
It’s important to remember that at the end of the day, this is our leisure/downtime/hobby, as well, and would like to enjoy spending time with all of you instead of having to arbitrate these things.
We simply ask that you bear that in mind.
A word about staff.
– Our staff here at Time of Origins put in some incredibly long hours and go through a lot of effort to bring this content to you.
– They are unpaid, volunteer their time, and selflessly put up with a lot of criticism, some earned, a lot unearned.
– Please be respectful of the staff.
– This does not mean you cannot be critical, but pick your battles.
– Arguing with staff in a public setting will get you asked to take it private where you will be listened to.
– It’s important to remember that us not doing what you want does not equate to us refusing to listen to you.
– We put great efforts into making this a fun place to be and a friendly community but we are not going to be able to please everyone all of the time, although we try our best.
32. Proof.
We want an environment of fair arbitration, and ask anyone reporting rule breaks to provide proof with their claims.
– If someone is breaking a rule, open the appropriate ticket and provide proof.
– EX: Screenshot, Dm’s, Video Evidence of the rule being broken.
33. Dispute Resolution.
– There are going to be times when a rule, event, concept, person or RP situation, etc rubs you the wrong way and you feel strongly about it and want to be heard regarding it.
Staff wants you to be heard and is not adverse to disputes over decisions but there is a right and a wrong way to get your point across. Opening up debate in general chat is ok, but continuing to hammer a point after it’s addressed needs to be put into a ticket and taken into a private conversation. Trying to push your point and recruit others to your side in an effort to strong arm the idea is something that is not healthy to the community as a whole and only creates a divide. We also ask for a measure of grace if this idea has been addressed but not to your liking.
34. Suicide/Self Harm RP.
– Suicide RP is defined as RP in which one takes their own life and is strictly prohibited. This does not include self sacrifice in which one may sacrifice themselves in combat or a dangerous situation to save others.
– You can not perma-death your character by suicide.
– Talk of suicide and/or self harm is taken very seriously and is a sensitive subject matter for many in the community. Doing so may result in a ban. If you feel this way OOC, please do seek help. While staff will talk to you about such things, please remember we are regular folks and not mental health professionals. There is always hope and help. https://www.iasp.info/suicidalthoughts/
35. RP Theft
– RP Theft is a type of Fail RP that includes, but is not limited to, an attempt to join, interject yourself, and conclude a long running, or already established RP scenario that you were not previously involved in, extensively.
– In order to conclude long-running RP, you must have extensive involvement in the situation.
– Example:
A murder has occurred. Storyteller A gets wind of the murder and spends several days investigating. They spend a lot of time speaking to other storytellers, interviewing, interrogating, reviewing crime scenes, etc. They arrive at a suspect and get others and law enforcement involved. Storyteller B, who previously hasn’t been involved, catches wind of this and sets out to catch the bad guy, finding them, and then killing them. Thus robbing Storyteller A of any conclusions to their efforts and law enforcement of their RP as well.
This is an example of RP theft.
How this should be handled is to include yourself with Storyteller A and work with law enforcement.
Get involved in the RP and work with the others, instead of.
– Stealing/gatekeeping someone else’s roleplay
– Not to be confused with Theft RP.
– This does not include server story, which is open to everyone and may have multiple groups working towards an absolution.
36. Religious Sensitivity RP
– Please be mindful that this is an RP setting and fantasy environment. While it is important to respect others having religious beliefs, we must remain mindful that this is a fantasy world that may have scenarios and stories that are diametrically opposed to some current real world religions. Please do not inject or dictate the RP of others based on your personal beliefs.
– Please do not base your RP to make real world religious statements or anti-religious statements. Remember to be respectful and mindful of the other storytellers in the community.
– Do not enforce a real world religious dogma on others in RP. This should be appropriate for the setting and the RP. You may not “Sneak it in” by RPng a specifically religious character that aligns with your personal religion or non-religion seeking to enforce it on others.
37. Forced Perma.
Players are not allowed to force another storyteller into the permanent death of their character.
– If you keep killing someone and they keep coming back, you really should be asking yourself if you may be griefing that person or what the RP goal is to your efforts.
– If a player continuously returns, you should be asking yourself if you are griefing that person and/or what the RP goal is to your efforts.
– If a person keeps engaging you to get you to kill them then it may be considered a form of griefing and needs to be brought up to the attention of the admin team and may be a violation of the value your life rule.
38. Agreed Perma
A ticket *MUST* be put in and an agreement needs to be made IN THE TICKET. This ensures staff and both sides are fully aware.
– If an agreement is made to perma another character, or an agreement to duel with perma outcome
– Conditions can, and should, be included.
*Management reserves the right to Force Perma any character under circumstances they deem fit.*
39. Have Fun.
Most important rule behind #1, please get out there and have fun.
Tell stories, create amazing lore and meet new weird people!
